Whiplash is a scary thing for people to endure. There are so many stories of people being injured in a car crash and the insurance companies flat out tell them that whiplash is a myth; that it isn’t real. There are many people who believe them as well. If you have ever experience this mythical condition, you will probably be up in arms against this opinion. Whiplash is a scientifically proven event that happens at even the slightest velocity of impact.
What’s worse is the long term potential that everyone who is injured faces. Did you know that many victims of whiplash won’t even make it back to work for months, even years after their crash? Researchers in Denmark have shown that even after 2 years, only 44% of the victims have made it back to work. That’s pretty discouraging!
But there is some good news with this study. Even though a whiplash patient is suffering from an injury that is debilitating and chronic, if the patient gets started with, what the Danish researchers called, “Active Rehabilitation”, the duration of the chronicity is lessened. Active rehabilitation includes chiropractic care, physical therapy, and self-therapy.
Unfortunately, there is more to the story than meets the eye. Any and all of the “Active Rehabilitation” that is performed, can’t be done by just anyone. There are certain protocols that must be performed for the rehab treatment to be effective. Finding a practitioner who is specially trained in auto accident treatments is essential in the progress of a patient. What this means is that the local office on the corner that is not certified in auto accidents is probably not the best choice.
Being certified to treat a patient who suffers from whiplash may mean the difference between recovery and being a statistic. It also means a little more to the ultimate outcome of the case. A practitioner who is certified in auto accident care, also has the special training to take care of the documentation in a manner that helps the case and not hinder the case. So the difficulty lies on the shoulder of the patient to find the appropriate office that is trained to in both the clinical side of an auto accident as well as the legal side. Failure to accomplish this may ultimately result in a lifetime of pain and medical bills.
